Here are some of the highlights from today’s show. Lisa shared lots of great tips to help us learn to take care of our “temple” to the Lord and live stronger and longer in order to serve Him. I don’t know about you, but that really hits home with me.
Lisa suggests that we eat three meals and two snacks a day in order to regulate our sugar throughout the day. She also recommends that you have some protein with every meal.
Lisa shared THREE major rules that are easy to remember every day as we choose what to eat.
1 – THINK BEFORE YOU DRINK: You want to eat your calories, not drink them so choose beverages which are low in calories and high in vitamins and minerals.
Water is the best for you, but Lisa admits that it is boring. She offers some tips to doctor it up: Add a squeeze of lemon, lime or orange to it to give it some flavor.
She also suggests having some sparkling water on hand which is like having soda.
She shared her recipe for “mom’s soda” with us: 1 part juice, with 6 parts sparkling water. What a great idea!
2 – EAT A RAINBOW: add color and variety to your meal to make it interesting and fun.
Berries are especially healthy. Lisa equated them to vitamins reporting that her family stopped getting sick when she started buying more berries.
Choose raw fruits and vegetables over fruit juices or cooked vegetables.
3 – WHITE IS NOT ALRIGHT: Removing the outer husk of wheat, removes the nutrition. Wheat bread is different from whole wheat bread. When buying bread, make sure you look for 100% whole wheat (or whole grain) to get the good stuff.
If your family is used to white and reluctant to switch to wheat try mixing them for a period of time. For example: make up white and brown rice and freeze it. Serve ¾ white rice and ¼ brown, then ½ of each, then ¼ white and ¾ brown until eventually you have switched to all brown rice. What a great idea.
