Today’s Special is: Our lives’ worth can only be found in pouring them out.
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Tiffany
Main Ingredient: “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.” 2 Corinthians 2:14-15
I daresay we wrestle with our worth daily. We have rather complex hearts that were made to love God’s heart. Understanding His heart is fundamental to understanding our own, because He values us immensely.
We could compare our hearts to the perfume poured out on Jesus’ feet by the women in Luke and John: a valuable blend of components combined to produce the desirable aroma. Our gifts, experiences, wisdom and love are the elements that compose us; Christ binds them together into something of worth. He made us valuable so we could be poured out as an offering to Himself, knowing that as we become living sacrifices, diffused amongst those who are being saved and those who are perishing, others would be drawn to find their worth in Him, too.
Sometimes the complexity of our hearts is degraded by our culture, making us feel like our special blend isn’t valued. We feel like we are never enough, and we pressure ourselves to be measured by performance or beauty or status. But God made us in His image and cherishes us as daughters. God sees us stripped of our accolades and devoid of make-up; and He decided we were worth sending His perfect Son to die. We weren’t worthy; we were valued.
The more we understand the gift of our worth in Christ, the more we are compelled to pour it back out at His feet. And as we do, a hopeless world is immersed in the fragrance of God and drawn to the sweetness of a relationship with Jesus.
Take Out: Actively resist the enemy when he comes against your knowledge of how God values you.
Dessert: Lord, help me to understand how You value me. I will pour my life out on You so those around me can be drawn to find their worth in You. I will resist the enemy as he tries to hinder my understanding of my worth in Christ. “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit”. (Romans 15:13 NIV)
