RADIO PODCAST: Sticky Faith

If a microphone was placed in your home, what would we hear when you talk to your teen about faith? An interview? A running commentary? What can we do to have a dialogue or real-life interaction with our teens to create sticky faith?

What a great show! I love how you bring out that we can be clipping along in the our role as a mom and yet be missing so much about how important it is to consider our every word, action and reaction as a way to convey the heart of Jesus to our children…and how important it is to understand that our children need their faith to be just as real to them as it is to us and the journey to finding that out, while difficult for us as parents, is necessary for them. :-)

Thank you for your wonderful encouragement! This was a topic I really needed to hear. Sometimes, though, I feel like I don’t fit in to the “typical” people who may be listening here. I struggle because for the past several years of my children’s lives, I have been one of those moms who had faith and talked about faith and the gospel, but didn’t “live” it. I might as well not have talked about it at all, because my kids look more at my example and how I live than they do at what I say (of course.) So, now I find myself with a 14 year-old, an 11 year-old and an 8 year-old who are struggling with several different issues. I am trying very hard to help them solve these issues by turning to God because I have been working recently on strengthening my own faith and trying more and more to live what I believe, but they are already where they are, and sometimes talking about going to God to help solve our problems is an awkward situation for us, because we have never done it before. We were just on the wrong path. So, I guess my problem is that I feel inadequate. Where you are talking about parents having strong faith but not sure how to pass it on to your kids, I am still wondering how I can pass on a faith that I have barely managed to gain of myself? Especially when my kids are teen or nearing teenage years? Is it even possible? I get discouraged about it often. I just found your website through the Moms Together page on Facebook and I will definitely be visiting it more often. Thank you so much!

    L. Maxwell,
I can relate sweet friend. I was there too. Can I share some hope with you? My children saw how I was living a less than faithful life during their teen and preteen years. However, they also witnessed the day I made a decision for Christ and allowed Him to change me. That, was more powerful than anything good or bad I had done in previous years. Do I get it right all the time, absolutely not. But they see me pressing ever forward and not turning back to the life I once lived. Now they are adults with children of their own. We are close and they tell me they love that I was honest with them along the journey. Keep on sister, don’t give up. What you do each day does matter. We are here, holding you in prayer. We have a prayer line you can call in every morning too if you need a daily dose of personal prayer. In His grip, Luann.

Thank you SO much for your words of encouragement! I needed to hear them today. I am so blessed to have found such a support group online of other women and moms who can relate and help me through hard times. Sometimes it helps just to know that I’m not the only one who is imperfect and that others have been through it and it turned out fine. Thanks SO much for the prayers! I’m sure I will continue to need them, and it’s good to know about your prayer line – I will most definitely be using it, I’m sure! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

I couldn’t find the number for the prayer line. Is it posted somewhere on the website?

We are equally as blessed and so happy that you found us. :) No ONE but Jesus is perfect and we have all “been there”; feeling like everyone else has it together except us. (at least I know I have) :) We pray that your heart will be encouraged day after day by our talented and loving writers. Thank you for sharing your heart with us. Prayers and blessings to you. Kathy
