When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. Exodus 17:12 (NIV)
She knocked on my door as I frantically packed. I didn’t expect this visit because our house is not on the way to anywhere! Yet there she was, arms outstretched with a hug that would sustain me through the rough days ahead. She held me and prayed and instantly I felt the Holy Spirit’s embrace. It was a physical reminder of a spiritual certainty. He will never leave us or forsake us.
I wonder if we have the ability in this hectic world to sit with someone until sunset, simply holding them? I wonder if we forgot how absolutely simple it is to extend a helping hand.
My friend prayed for me over the phone. She really did her ‘duty’ to pray, yet God prompted her to do more. She set aside her to-do list, drove 20 minutes into the country and knocked on my door. And I will remember that moment as long as I live. Someone went out of their way to show up and hold me up.
There are moments when a phone call, text or email just won’t do. We are called to be a physical reminder of a spiritual certainty. Today, let’s show up and hold up the arms of someone who needs this reminder. ~ Luann Prater
Lord, so often we miss opportunities to show up because our pace is too frenzied and frazzled. Slow us down. Tune our ears to hear Your Voice. Direct our steps to those who need a reminder of Your Promises. In Jesus’ name, amen.
