“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways ,” declares the Lord. Isaiah 55:8 NIV
She wailed into the phone, "They've given up hope!" My mom was a believer in Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals, because she had seen it first-hand. Before you think I'm a looney tune, let me share what I personally witnessed.
When my oldest brother was about 15 he jumped up from the couch, became dizzy and fainted. He whacked his head on the way down and immediately a goose egg bump pushed out. I was 4 but I remember it vividly. My mom placed her hand on his swollen noggin and prayed out loud. As she did, the lump disappeared and my brother was fine.
About 10 years later, our youth group from church tried to see how many of us could fit into a friend's convertible. The poor boy on the bottom didn't move his hand before the door shut. His screams blended in with the loud roar of teenagers having fun, but finally someone noticed he was hurting. They rushed him into the house where my mom ran cold water over his hand. The bone was protruding from his finger. She placed her hand over his and prayed. When he turned his hand over, the bone was no longer exposed and the skin wasn't broken. I know, if I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't believe it either. But I did.
So it was no wonder why my mother was devastated to hear the doctors say, "There's no hope." She had earnestly prayed for my other brother to be healed of Leukemia and now the doctors were giving up?
She wanted desperately for her boy to live, but mom understood that God's healing comes in different packages. She trusted that one day we will understand why God chose to give him no sickness, in heaven instead of here on earth.
Faith is revealed when we believe Jehovah Rapha always heals but understand the special delivery package is as creative as the Creator.
Jehovah Rapha specializes in caring for the hurting and healing the broken. Cry out to Him today if you or someone you love needs a touch from the Great Physician. He will hear and answer. Be prepared to receive a special delivery.
Lord, You promise that when we pray, You hear. Teach us to believe that Your ways are not our ways and Your answers don't come in one-size-fits-all packages. In Jesus' name, Amen.
